Film “Truce” by Svetlana Proskurina: Reflecting on life

- “This film reflects today’s reality. The protagonist is trying to find himself. I have enjoyed it a lot!”

- “Pathetic attempts of a person who does not have any goal in this life”…

- “The film leaves no choice. Pessimistic enough!”

- “A true-to-life film with a very depressing atmosphere. However, there is hope for the future.”

- “The main character is carelessly floating along with the stream of life. A rather protracted film.”

- “The director brainstormed a bunch of ideas without going to the end any of them.”

- “The protagonist is reflecting on life, is trying to hear himself, have a look into the future.”

An excited discussion took place in the hall of the “Salyut” cinema after the drama “Truce” by the Russian director Svetlana Proskurina. Some kind of an understatement encouraged the audience to try and make suppositions about what was the initial message of this film.

The storyline is quite trivial: the setting takes place in the Russian province with a typical way of living. The film comprises a lot of immodest shots and cursing. Strange as it might be, but all these features seem to be absolutely appropriate and precisely describing one of the aspects of everyday life in Russia.

The protagonist of the film, Egor Matveev, sets off in the search of an unmapped town. He just saw its title being mentioned once in some doubtful source. The passion for life makes Egor go through a number of challenges, but the character is only floating along with the mainstream without knowing what his life journey should be like. Perhaps, it’s you who, having watched the film “Truce”, will be able to unravel the mystery of the title and the message, initially meant for the audience by the director. Enjoy!
