Starting at 18:30 on the 5th of July, Russian and worldwide celebrities were walking along the red carpet that led them straight to the “Lenkom” cinema. They were: film directors, actors and actresses, critics, designers, artists, etc. The guests of the Festival were greeted with loud applause from the audience, orchestrators and volunteers, photo-correspondents and journalists, and director of the festival Igor Lysenko and executive governor of Vologda Oblast I.A. Pozdnyakov in person. For a couple of hours the cinema turned into the center of cultural life and Vologda confirmed its status of the Festival Capital of Russia once again. The most ambitious and promising Second International Festival of Young European Cinema VOICES started right there and then.

The founder and President of the International Film Festival in Sofia Stephan Kitanov, a Russian actress and the winner of the Italian Film Academy Award Kseniya Rappoport, a Serbian director Goran Paskaljevich, an Italian actress and model Katherina Murino, a Ukrainian director Sergey Loznitsa and, finally, an English director and a 4-time winner of the Oscar, Hugh Hudson. Together these people make up an absolutely brilliant panel of judges of the Second Film Festival VOICES.

And the honour of being shown at the Opening ceremony was awarded to a tragic comedy by the director Francesca Archibuqi “Matter of Heart” (“Questione di cuore”), that was not included into the competition program. After the end of the film the cinema hall was filled with loud applause that determined its undoubtful success. We wish every single day of the Festival to be welcomed this cordially and appraised to its merit! Go VOICES!
