“The Little Tragedies” + “Clown” by Irina Evteeva: The technique seen in a dream

Irina Evteeva, the winner of the “Silver Lion” came herself to Vologda in order to present her works : a short film-cartoon “Clown” (for which Irina was awarded at “La Biennale”) and her latest piece of work, free-and-easy 40min screen adaptation “The Little Tragedies” by Pushkin.

Unfortunately, not so many people came to watch the cartoons and to talk to the director, but all of them were very excited: they didn’t want to let Irina go, asked her questions. The majority of the audience, of course, were interested in the amazing technique of the director – this is because, first of all, Irina Evteeva films actors (including really famous people, such as Elizabeth Boyarskaya, Vecheslav Polunnnin, etc.), and only after that, using this as the basis, she creates her unique works, which stand on the border of cinema and animated cartoon. It’s very interesting that the shooting of, for example, “The Little Tragedies” took only 9 days, but the process of drawing took about 2 years. Irina confessed that for the first time she saw the implementation of this unusual method in a dream.

During the conversation with Irina Evteeva, Vologodians were also interested in the financial aspect of her work (the government helps Irina, but the sum of money is not too big, of course), the beginning of her career, and the success of her films at home and abroad. The conversation was as interesting as the cinema show.
